Notes
Alex was in Ndhalike village to meet with the water user committee and the village to prepare for the borehole drilling. He had been earlier on informed by the drilling contractors that drilling was going to start the yesterday but unfortunately one of the trucks broke down on the way from the northeast part of Uganda. Alex however was able to prepare the leaders and the water user committee briefing them what to expect during the next steps of drilling. The community is supposed to offer security to the trucks overnight, fetch enough water to be used during the borehole drilling process, make sure there is food for the workers and guide the rest of the community members in what to be done. The community should participate during this process whenever called upon by the drillers. Alex then guided the leaders and the land owner through the process of land agreement signing which is a required step before the borehole drilling. This acts as an assurance to kibo group that this land where the well is to be drilled has no disputes and that the land owner willingly and at no cost gave out this piece of land for borehole drilling by kibo group and would allow the rest of the community members to access the water source without any consequent demand of money by him to get water. The borehole to be drilled by Kibo group belongs to all people in the community and therefore they are called to work together throughout the process to show community ownership to this new borehole. The land owner, Mr Takozekibi happily gave out to his community a piece of land measuring 30 by 30 square feet and was backed up by his son who was present. Drilling of the new borehole is expected on Thursday or Friday depending if the rig truck has been fixed. The village people can’t just believe that very soon a new borehole is to be drilled in their village and thank kibo group for putting their village to another level in Namwendwa sub county and Kamuli district. Alex will go back for the supervision of the new borehole drilling to its completion and a group of 4 women told Alex that they pray everyday that water is got when drilling takes place.
