Notes
Tom passed by the district to pick up one police officer and were later joined by the health inspector from Bulange sub-county. Together they first met the chairman of the village who accepted to join them during the follow up. They started moving in the homes around the trading center where the chairman also comes from. The chairman was able to show the government officials his new brick and concrete latrine. The officials were very thankful and appreciated the chairman for such a commitment to construct such a facility. Later they moved in other homes were they found more facilities being improved upon by roofing them as well as smearing. Tom and the government officials were encouraging the residents to continue working and never let their sanitation standards go down again but rather to keep improving. They also met a resident who has started on a new pit for his new latrine. When asked why he has chosen to start a new one, he said he will never again wait to be told or taught because after kibo when in the village, he was taught the value and importance of having a latrine in the home so when he realized his old latrine is getting full, he started on a new one and he said this time, he wants to construct a better one than the old latrine he has now. Tom thanked his for such forward thinking and action towards sanitation and hygiene. Later they had a short meeting and discussed about how to keep buluvu with the ODF status from now and onwards. Tom encouraged the chairman and the vhts to mobilize the village for a village meeting in which the idea will be brought up as well as discussed. The health officials were very thankful to kibo. Another government official in the group was the health assistant of namutumba town council.
