Notes
Harriet made a surprise visit to Naisamula village because she wanted to find out whether participants use their stoves on daily, have smeared their kitchens and had firewood risen stands well stocked with firewood. She also wanted to assess the general hygiene of the kitchen. On her way out she passed at the sub county of Ivukula because she wanted to meet the CDO ,share with him kibo activities in the village as well as encourage him to go and visit the village to further encourage participants. She meet the CDO who was very appreciative of kibo activities in his subcounty which has changed so many lives. He said that he has taken around 6 months with out visiting Naisamula village but since she Harriet requested him, he will make a visit to the village and see how they are progressing. HARRIET later own went to the village and waterbed walking home to home. Most people had gone to their gardens because it had been raining for the last two weeks so they were busy in the gardens planting sweet potatoes. During home visiting, HARRIET observed that most people were cooking on their stoves on daily basis however they had declined as far as smearing is concerned. She tried to find out from the few participants about this and they told her that they have recently experienced heavy windy rains which washed a way the dirt that they used to smear their facilities. HARRIET encouraged them to re do it for their structures to look neat and last longer. It was also observed that some kitchens were leaking due to heavy windy rains and HARRIET encouraged the men to roof those kitchens to avoid rain from spoiling the stoves. Also some participants left their homes unswept as they went to the gardens though HARRIET did not find the adults at homes but left the message through the children found at home to tell their participants always to sweep their compounds and kitchens before they head out to the gardens. The chairperson of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program Mulimdwa Moses together with the Chairperson LC1 thanked kibo approach of the surprise visit which might help the participants to improve. Kibo staff asked him to follow up with those parents who were not found at home nor their children in order to pass the information to them.
