Notes
Tom made a visit to kishaike village to take the community through the selection of a water user committee. When he arrived In the village, he found when the chairman and some committee members were already waiting at the meeting place. Tom and the committee members waited for a little while for village residents to gather before the meeting started. The meeting started and the chairman of the village welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced Tom. Tom thanked the village residents for coming as well as participating in the sanitation and hygiene program. He thanked the Sanitation and hygiene committee for the great work they have done encouraging residents to improve on their Sanitation. The residents of the village gave a hand clap in appreciation of the work the sanitation and hygiene committee has done. Tom thanked them and said because of their work and partnership with kibo and the challenges of the existing well, kibo has decided to give the village a borehole. This message was received with great excitement and applause. Tom mentioned of the importance and need to continue working on sanitation especially those, few homes still lacking some facilities. Tom also empathizes the importance of understanding the responsibility of managing and maintaining the borehole and emphasized that this is a joint effort (the community and the water user committee). Tom also encouraged the community to work well with the committee when it comes to contributions as it’s very essential to maintain the borehole. After those few remarks Tom guide the community through the selection of the water user committee. During the process, the biggest challenge was to get women on the committee as many women did not want to take up key roles. Tom encouraged them that this was their time to take up responsibility and step up. Finally some woman were able to express their willingness to take up positions like for the treasurer position. Tom encouraged the selected committee to start work immediately and encouraged the residents to support the committee. He also encouraged the committee to join in the efforts to make sure that every resident in the village has the necessary facilities required to maintain good hygiene. He encouraged the them to also move around and encourage residents on sanitation and hygiene improvements.
