Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village to conduct the first evaluation and monitoring process. When she arrived there, she was welcomed by the group chairperson who was already sitting with other four more committee group members at the meeting place under a mango tree. Without wasting much time, Suzan informed the members the purpose for the visit that day which was to walk around the village while evaluating each member who participated in the program implementation. This was important because the program officers needed to know if each member was comfortably and effectively cooking on their improved fuel stoves and if they were facing any challenges. Together they would be able to identify possible solutions to the challenges. Later they got up and began visiting home to home as they checked on different facilities such as the kitchens, shower areas, dish racks and the high risen firewood storages. Suzan kept on monitoring the inside of the kitchens to find out if the members were properly cooking on their stoves as well as maintaining them such as smearing them at least once or twice in a month. She also checked on the firewood storages while she advised them to always keep repairing and maintaining them as much as possible. A few members reported that their stoves were not cooking very well and were planning to build new ones once they collected enough grass. They said their stoves were built in wrong wind directions which kept the smoke stuck inside. She kept on advising each member while evaluating them by asking different questions concerning the program facilities and stoves. At the end, 37 homes were evaluated that day and Suzan thanked all the participants for the good work done, wishing them a happy stay.
