Learning Objectives
To educate the community members about how HIV is transmitted from one person to another person.
Notes
Introduction Manuela went to Bukoma village to review all the previous lessons and also taught about the how HIV is transmitted from one person to another and how they can prevent the virus from catching them. Objective By the end of this lesson, participants will be able to remember all what they learnt previously. Participants will be able to know how HIV is transmitted from one person to another. Overview Manuela went to Bukoma and reviewed the previous lesson. After this Manuela taught about prevention and transmission but she also reviewed on facts and myths . While teaching on transmission, 1 man confessed that what Manuela was teaching was right but people in this village don’t want to come out and say their status because of the stigma and this has led to the high rate of HIV transmission in this community. He shared that for him the community stigmatized him, isolated him for a long time until eventually they started associating with him. Another man shared that the men do not tell their wives about their statuses but they would rather take their medicine in hiding and you find that their wives are not taking the same medication leading to death.all this is however due to stigmatization. Manuela encouraged them to stop stigmatizing against each other because no one wants to get this disease. She went ahead and told them HIV does not segregate and urged them to carry out HIV testing as a family so they can know their status because if one knows early they can start treatment early and can live longer however when they start their medication late there high chances of the medication not working since the visrus would have overpowered the antibodies. The same man who is Living with HIV shared a story of how he himself took initiative to contact USAID to come to this village so as the community can test their status but when they came everyone hid. He did so the second time and the same thing happened. He asked Manuela to teach on Positive living and stigma that people should talk about their status than going about reinfecting themselves with HIV/AIDS. Conclusion, Manuela gave the homework on disease Progression , she told them to share their the home work with their children.
