Notes
This visit to Butabira was aimed at first continue with guiding the village and sanitation committee to build a standard wall fence on their borehole. This follows after the village raised all the required materials to construct the wall fence around the borehole. This community demonstrated something unique to raise all the materials without any help from Kibo group and managed to construct a wall fence around their borehole having bought the idea from Kibo group. The water user committee for a long time has had challenges to maintain a fence on this fence and for the whole year Kibo has been in this village no fence has ever been seen. After repairing the borehole, Alex engaged all the water users in the village to come together and contribute money for the wall fence. Alex told the leaders and the rest of the committee members the advantages of a permanent wall fence over the wooden fence. The village bought the idea and solely contributed all the materials required to build the fence. Kibo’s role has been to guide the village to come up with a standard wall fence. A metal piece had been already welded and the construction of the wall fence would start the following day on Saturday. Then together with the sanitation committee they visited some homes to check on hand washing in the homes. It was such a good gesture to see many homes still using the hand washing facilities and water was found in many of the jerrycans. Alex together with the committee continued to encourage the homes in the upper part of the village to keep up the spirit of hand washing and other facility standards. He continued to also prepare the village for the new borehole in the village that is expected to be drilled by kibo group. Alex will plan to go back and and check on the completed wall fence at the borehole and continue preparation of the village for the new borehole expected to be drilled in the village.
Next Visit
2021-03-03 - Purpose: To inspect the standard of the newly constructed wall fence at the old well and continue preparing the water user committee for the borehole survey process as well as continue to courage the village to maintain the required sanitation and hygiene standards.
Program Success
The village sanitation and hygiene committee together with the water user committee have worked very hard to have all the village residents contribute funds to construct a wall fence on the old well and maintain sanitation and hygiene standards in the village
Program Critical Needs
There is still need for clean water in the village in addition to an existing water well that was repaired by kibo group in partnership with the village. There are still many people that move long distances to access clean water

The village has taken up the responsibility to construct this wall fence around the borehole. This wall has cost them a lot but took it up without any other support in terms of money.
