Notes
Irene went to Igerera B to discuss about the gender roles as in maternal, infant and child health. The meeting started with a word of prayer led by one of the community members Isma then a word from the VHT. Who thanked kibo for the continued support and equipping their community with knowledge about their health. She then invited Irene to say a word to the members. Irene thanked the members for their continued turn up for all the meetings, and asked why the other members have not turned up and the members said the government had abruptly sent a group of health workers to fumigate their homes against mosquitoes and bedbugs, so the members had to be present in their homes while the exercise is going on. Irene then introduced Diana to the members. Irene then asked the members to embrace the activities brought to their village by the Government because it’s to help them improve their health. Then Irene asked the members to pass on the information to the others that have not turned up. Irene then informed the members that they were going to discuss about gender roles or responsibilities of men, women, children and the community towards the mother, baby and children.but before the discussion Irene made a recap of the previous lessons, and then there after asked the members each one’s roles. Irene invited Diana to take the members through the discussion. Isma said men are supposed to provide to their families all the basic needs and to look after their women especially providing the special needs during pregnancy, labor and child birth, zamina said it’s up to the women to plan with their men for the children, and the coming baby Incase the woman is pregnant. The members also discussed ignorance and family misunderstandings as some of the causes of maternal ,infant and child mortality, so members were encouraged to always talk to their spouses and settle misunderstandings so as to have happy homes.
