Notes
Harriet went to Naibowa village to teach women how to practically remove banana stems from the previously built stove. As soon as she reached in the village the participants gathered at the meeting place ( one of the homes)where a demonstration exercise of removing banana stems was to be carried. This time the participants had all the materials( a knife, a shovel ) that will be used to remove banana stems at the site. Harriet told the participants that this time she will give the women a chance to participate in removing banana stems from the stoves as kibo staff guides them as well as corrects their mistakes. She added that the reason she wants only women to participate in this ,she wants them also to master the whole process of building stoves other than leaving every thing for men in the group. The women removed the banana stems but forgot to remove the banana stem between the two cooking saucepans, the dirt that was stuck inside . Kibo staff tasked them to first go and look at one of the complete stoves and them come and correct their mistakes. The women went and looked at one of the stove ( for wakiso)which was complete and already working. This opened the women’s mind about the mistake they had made, they came back and fixed it. The women were able to remove banana stems from the two stoves that were previously built and smeared them. Kibo staff encouraged the owner of the stoves to continuously smear their stoves and the kitchens for them to look neat and last longer. When the women saw the two complete stoves that they were able to remove banana stems successfully were excited and thanked kibo for empowering them with a skill of building stoves despite the mistakes they have always made. Kibo staff thanked them for participating and encouraged them to always make references to the complete stoves to avoid mistakes.
