Notes
Tom made a visit to kishaike village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements by checking on facility constructions. Tom went with the Heath assistant of Kagulu sub county. When they arrived in the village, they were joined by other committee members and together they moved to the lower section and upper section of the village. On the lower village they visited especially those homes which are yet to finish their facilities. In one home they found when the resident had not yet constructed a structure on his new pit. Tom and the health assistant guided him on how to construct a better structure on his pit especially that the place were his pit has loose sandy soils. The committee members also encouraged him to use better logs if he is unable to construct a concrete slab. In another home as well in the lower section, they encouraged another resident to construct on his new pit as the old latrine had collapsed. The resident said he was working to get better logs to put on the pit before constructing on it. One of the committee members told the resident of where he could buy the logs that will help him on his pit. Still on the lower section they found Mr yakobo who is a herdsman. He has never had a Latrine in his home and whenever the chairman and committee members would tell him, he would say he is never in his home so he did not see the need for a Latrine. Tom spent time that day explaining to him the need for a latrine. Later he accepted that he was going to start on a pit and construct on it as soon as possible. On the upper they encouraged residents to construct hand washing stands as well as dish racks. One of the residents who recently finished his latrine was encouraged to construct a roof on the structure so that its protected from rain. Many residents were improving and three new shower facilities were seen that day. Tom encouraged them to put a course of cement on the shower facilities so that they are stronger and long lasting.
