To educate the community members about women and HIV.
Notes
Manuela went to bulyowa village to teach about cure or treatment, women and HIV. Teaching about cure or treatment educate the participants to know that there is no cure for HIV but apparently the HIV positive person is taking ARVs to manage the signs and symptoms and other related diseases. Manuela went on and also said that teaching community members about women and HIV educated the women to be more careful because they are so vulnerable and they need skills and to be protected. Overview It was amazing when Manuela reached the village and found some members already seated, Manuela greeted them and requested for the chairman to open the meeting, this meeting was opened with a prayer led by Wilma, after that Manuela introduced the the lessons of the day, after that she went on and asked the participants about the homework given to them. Manuela asked the participants that which group is ready , the men were ready but the women did not respond simply because they were not ready. Manuela requested the men to send their representative, they had two men and they managed to present, the followings are the way it went. Presentation for men on women and HIV. The men started by asking the fellow participants that why do they say women and HIV not men, the men because women are the mothers and they carry babies, the rest said that women are womanizer , some of them said women are so beautiful but among them there two men who gave correct answers that the reason why they say women and HIV because the way God created a woman matters a lot, he went on and said all the women’s organs are inside other than men. Manuela was happy. Then the other one said that the social and the cultural practice like female genital parts. After that Manuela got motivated and stood up to explain to the community members. Manuela said that women are especially vulnerable to HIV and need information and Skills to protect themselves and their children because in this session both biological and cultural or social factors that put women at risk. There are so many factors that can make women to be vulnerable to catch HIV, she said that women are being forced to get married to men whom they don’t know their HIV status, women are not given chance to decide on what to take on. After that , women requested Manuela to help them because they didn’t search so Manuela decided to help them, Manuela started by saying that there are mistaken beliefs that people have been cured of HIV/ AIDS, and that wealthy people or countries are the only ones who can get treatment, this season emphasizes the concept that although there is no cure for AIDS, there are many treatments available that can minimize the signs and symptoms of HIV/AIDS. Manuela told them to be careful though there are treatment for that disease. After that, Manuela also took the participants through positive behavior change of living when some one is HIV positive, Manuela asked them what should they do In order to live longer, they said that person must eat well balanced diet food, have enough rest, take medication in time Manuela also told them that they should be faithful to one another, treat all sexually transmitted disease in time to avoid HIV from gaining host in the body. Finally, as usual Manuela gave the participants again home to search for till next visit, the men will search for relationships between HIV/ AIDS and STDs then the women will search for HIV/AIDS and Human Rights.
