Enock went to carry out hand washing triggering in this community. This is the first village amongst all the villages we selected to go and teach, educating, guide,sensitize and demonstrate how to construct a hand washing stand after proper lessons on the core values, importance of hand washing, talk about the challenges and diseases which are caused due to poor sanitation and not washing hands. As we reached this community, Enock walk around to first check on the latrines, shower areas, kitchen areas, dish racks if they where still in place. I saw some good latrines which are still in use and generally most people have managed to maintain the sanitation standards in this community. After the walking around we went to the meeting areas where the residents where waiting to learn and hear from the Wash team. The chairman of the village opened the meeting with the word of prayer and welcomed us to chair want we have brought to them. I introduced the Wash triggering campaign of hand washing triggering in the meeting. Asked people to show there neighbors hands and see if they are clean. I introduced the lessons by asking three volunteers who came in front to demonstrate and show others if they think there hand where so clean. We used a basin, water and soap ,We asked some ladies to demonstrate how they peel eggs for the children and food as well, while demonstrating the core importance of hand washing . The community members saw how there hands have been dirty due to poor hand washing habits. The people saw how the soap washes so clean and promise to take more responsibility. Most people learnt and vowed to also teach all there family members on how important it is to wash there hands. After the lessons, guidance and demonstration on how to construct a hand washing stand. One of the village resident who is a builder said he would wish to take more responsibility in demonstrating through my guidance we constructed one hand washing stand as a demonstration which all the residents participated so that they can all learn and construct a better stand. On completion of the hand washing Stand, I gave the community residents jerrycans and cement which is to help them construct good standard hand washing stands which is a great support and contribution from kibo. The village residents where so happy and they appreciate all the great lessons and support from kibo group. I was so impressed to see when most residents are willing to change and improve their sanitation improvements. The chairman and VHTs agreed to keep the jerrycan and would give it to on,y those homes which have completed constructing a hand washing stands.
