Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went back to the village to complete with the first evaluation process and then share it’s findings with the members. When she arrived there, she went to the meeting place and found some of the committee group members, rose, Charles and Hamada already waiting. They happily welcomed her and without wasting much time, they agreed to visit the remaining homes which were not yet evaluated in the previous meeting. To quicken up the process, Suzan formed two groups which went separate sides within the village because there were quite many remaining members who were not evaluated. Ask they walked separately, different questions were asked concerning the stove usage, how it benefited them and if there were more challenges faced while they cooked on them. However, almost all the members evaluated that day appreciated the work done by Kibo staff and the women said how the stoves have greatly changed their lives. They said they no longer suffered from smoke inhalation because the kitchens were smokeless, they cooked food faster and on time yet it saved firewood. Both their children and husbands easily cooked food on them while they were busy with some other activities. They also no longer suffered from eye infections and other diseases. Only a few members needed to reconstruct their stoves because they were built at the wrong wind direction which failed to cook their food well. Some facilities needed to be repaired and smeared such as the latrines, shower areas, dish racks which were eaten by the termites. Later after the evaluation, Suzan met with the members and shared with them the findings. This was important because they needed to know their mistakes and correct them as soon as possible. She encouraged them to always work together as a team and continue building stoves for new members. She thanked them for everything and good work done and the meeting came to an end.
