Notes
Having made a decision to back off from the first hole that was being drilled, the drilling contractor Draco together with Alex agreed to shift to a new place 6M away from the failed point. Also a new rig was brought in to substitute the one that was used first. The second rig brought in is more powerful than the other one used before and would work well on this challenging site. It was completely a new drilling team that came in to try and make sure the second hole turns out successful. In the first hole, there was water but it was very hard to tap this water and so it was decided to back fill with soil and start on a new hole having drilled 51M deep. This was the fourth day of drilling in Butabira village and the first day drilling at the second hole after failing in the first hole. 21M were drilled on the first day and the formation was quite different from the first hole. Also some water was hit from about 19M but with some signs of soil collapsing. The drillers will plan to manage this collapse as soon as possible by installing temporary casings into the hole. Drilling in Butabira has proved very challenging and need patience because of its tricky formation. Many of the community members had lost hope but were encouraged seeing a new team from Draco and Alex continued to give the bill hope that they will have water.
