Notes
Tom made a visit to kalalu village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements in the lower section of the village. When he arrived in the village, he found when most of the committee members were having a meeting place at the primary school holding prayers for the primary schools pupils who are going to sit for their exams. Before going to join them in the meeting, Tom first moved around the village to check on facility constructions. He started from the lower section and he specifically wanted to visit Mr Basoga’s ho,e. When he arrived their, he found mr Basoga present and he was working on the construction of the structure on his new pit. Tom thanked him for working to have a Latrine in his home and also guided him on the construction and strengthening of the mud floor. Tom advised mr basoga to mix more mud and put around the structure. Tom also encouraged him to put on a roof to prevent rain water from going into the pit to weaken the floor. From there Tom moved to other homes checking and encouraging residents on sanitation improvements. In another section of the village Tom visited, he found when the residents had constructed new hand washing stands. Tom encouraged them to cement them so that they are strong. After moving around, Tom joined the community members and other committee members at the meeting. Tom thanked the teachers of the school for teaching and appreciated the committee members for their commitment towards educating their children. Tom also addressed the importance of teachers role in promoting sanitation and hygiene in the village because it also improves the pupils performance when they come from clean homes and clean environments. Tom suggested to the teachers that they also need to set up sanitation and hygiene committees at the primary school and promote sanitation using school pupils. The committee members thanked Tom and kibo for the work they are doing in the village and well as the teachers.
