Notes
When Enock reached the community, he first went to the chairman’s place where the VHT Matiya was waiting for him. He teamed up with the local leader but first of all they discussed about the homes which didn’t have latrines and how they have to bring them up to speed. I mentioned to them names of homes which where lagging behind after conducting the third evaluation survey. We made it a priority to first go those homes, have an intense dialogue and discuss with families of Mr Badanga Wilson who is a boda boda guy to know what the way forward for his home, we also went to Bawalane Samwiri, Tofa Kairu, Emmanuel Byakatonda, Majidu and kirya Fred. All these families told us to give them few weeks since some of them Lost there latrines due to poor construction and heavy rainfall. Some of the families have already started digging new pits for construction, the ones who have latrine holes 15ft deep I taught them how to construct good firm foundation to give the structure a strong base. After we walked in homes which didn’t have the new hand washing stations, we encouraged them how to construct sustainable stands although some people claimed they didn’t have cement to construct. Some people said they will save some money to buy cement and use it for construction to add resilience and strength to the structures. During the visit, I also made a quick walk in the homes of the trading centre to check on the progress of sanitation improvements, encourage proper maintenance and hygiene in homes, encourage the residents to make proper drainage systems on shower areas to keep the showers clean. I encouraged the residents to put more emphasis on completing the missing facilities in their homes.
