Notes
Harriet went to Kazimba Kungira village to teach participants the materials required to build stoves with the main emphasis on teaching participants how to chop grass. She did not find participants at the meeting place but as soon as she reached participants came to the meeting. The meeting begun with an open prayer that was led by Naigaga Grace who thanked the lord for Journey mercies that He always to kibo staff. The chairperson LC1 thanked every one who had turned up for the meeting and welcomed kibo staff to teach her lesson for the day. Kibo staff taught the participants the materials required for building stoves like termite dirt, grass, water that they mixed together to form the concrete for stoves, banana stems that are used to make different holes on the stove, a shovel to create the vent, two saucepans that are used to create surface areas where the saucepans will sit while cooking on the stoves, basins for measuring dirt and grass, a panga to cut banana stems and grass. After mentioning all this she asked the participants whether these materials are freely and easily available in their community. The participants told Harriet that all these materials can be found in their village. One participants called Ouma James told Harriet that all these materials they are familiar with them but they are not very sure whether grass can be found in their village. Harriet told him that it was her next item on the agenda. She asked the participants to walk with her to bush and search for grass which she will later teach them how to chop it. Kibo staff together with the community walked just behind the meeting place and found the grass that is required for building stoves. This was a confirmation to the community that even grass is easily found in their community. Later own Harriet asked the members to bring a panga and a log and she demonstrated to them how to chop grass. She then asked every one present to try to cut grass as she watched because the goal of this program is to ensure that they master a skill of building stoves and this can only be achieved through active participation. At the beginning some women were hesitant to try but Harriet kept on encouraging them and later own they tried.Kibo staff then left them with an a sign meant to chop at least one bag of grass before the next meeting before kibo builds the first demonstration stove. The participants promised to work together to achieve the set goal.
