Notes
Irene went to kalitumba to teach about maternal, child and infant health basically the common causes of death, health risks, gender roles, and importance of antenatal care The meeting started with a word of prayer, then a word from the chairman who thanked the members for turning up and kibo for their continued support towards the development of their community. He further encouraged the members to keep up with the hygiene and proper sanitation especially in this rain season so as to avoid the diseases that come with the rain. He then welcomed Irene to say a word to the members. Irene thanked the members for turning up for the meeting, encouraged them to plant enough food since it’s the rain season, proper ventilation of their houses to prevent the rain and proper sanitation. Irene then made a review of the previous lesson asking the members some of the things discussed during the previous lesson and she introduced the new lesson. Irene asked the members the importance of discussing maternal, child and infant health, it helps us know about the behavior of women and what affects them said Charles,it also helps us know when to take our children to hospital. On addition to that Irene said it can provide an opportunity to identify existing health risks in women, infants and children and to prevent future health problems for women and their children. Irene then asked the members some of the health risks that may affect women and children, pressure ( hypertension) said scovia, heart diseases, sugars( diabetes), STDs,substance abuse, unhealthy weight, malnutrition, chronic illnesses, and the members also discussed were do maternal, infant and child deaths occur and they said it’s in developing countries. Some of the goals or of Maternal, Infant and child health discussed included improving the health and wellbeing of mothers , infants, children, and their families. The members then discussed the benefits of antenatal care, giving the routine check ups done on every visit, discussed what is prepared for child birth and explained the mama kit benefits. Most of these complications develop during pregnancy and most are preventable or treatable.Other complications may exist before pregnancy, especially if not managed as part of the woman’s care. So Irene advised the members to always visit the health facilities for a detailed checkup and proper diagnosis.
