Notes
Alex and Martin were in Kamudoke village to conduct triggering in open defecation. On arrival, the village women welcomed kibo staff while dancing and singing songs of appreciation to kibo group for coming to rescue them since their husbands are caring less. From the baseline survey conducted in the village, the village showed very low latrine coverage and with many cases of open defecation. The village residents turned up in big numbers to attend the triggering meeting and participated during the whole process. They all agreed that their village was really in danger and needed to work hard to uplift the sanitation standards in their village. Also during the mapping exercise, all the community members marked their homes on the village map and surprisingly a man stood with confidence and testified that he never had a pit latrine in his home and was practicing open defecation bringing all the problems in the village. He thanked Kibo staff, Alex and Martin for opening his eyes to change and help many other people in the village to also change. The health assistant, Mr. Busense and the parish chief thanked kibo group for coming to Kamudoke to help the village also improve on their hygiene and sanitation standards. A lot has been done in Ivukula sub county by kibo group already and the sub county officials thanked kibo group for all the initiatives done in Namutumba district. The village sanitation committee selected by the community were comprised of 3 women and two men to spear head the sanitation committee in the village. The village gave themselves a grace period of two months to complete the sanitation and hygiene program. The rains some how disorganized our meeting twice but a lot in general was accomplished during the meeting.
