Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo A. She was accompanied by Rebecca. The community had already gathered for the lesson. The chairman and his committee welcomed us, thanking us for loving them and always being there for them. They thanked Kibo for giving them people who have transformed their community. Ndalike Mohamed the secretary said that Kibo is a basket full of beautiful things. He said that, may the basket never dry, and may Nawandyo A be blessed always. Diana thanked the community for welcoming them and for loving them always. She encouraged them to be hard working and to put all the lessons they have learnt into practice. They should not just listen but they should put the lessons into actions. Diana requested Rebecca the visitor to greet them, which she did and thanked the community of Nawandyo A for being loving people. Diana asked them what they remember from last week’s lesson, Saidha said, she remembers early marriages and bride price, she said peer pressure has made many children to get married early.Diana thanked her for answering very well. Diana taught them that early marriages have a lot of consequences, which include; the children of those married young are less healthy, sometimes they produce prematures and are also at risk of contacting diseases, untimely pregnancies and risk like death during child birth, others get fistula, increase of sexually transmitted diseases, they are most likely to get cancer, they are unable to access Education since they will be married off early. Diana taught the community of Nawandyo A that poverty should never be a reason for any girl in Nawandyo A to be married off. The parents should know that their children are a gift from God and they instead groom them rightly and help them succeed in life. The parents should also know that early marriage is bad. They have to know that when you educate a girl, you educate the whole nation. Rebecca added on that the stake holders like LCs, police, head teachers should protect girls from early marriages. Therefore the community should stand with the parents to help fight this vice of early marriage by taking the children to school and telling them the benefits of Education, than receiving gifts of bride price to satisfy themselves and yet they are burying their children’s future.
