Notes
Tom made a visit to kishaike village with Alex Bamulumbye to open the borehole for the village so that they can start using it. When they arrived in the village, they found the committee members waiting at the meeting place. Tom was able to open the borehole and the residents started pumping water. The water came out immediately and this brought a lot of excitement for the village residents. Many of them brought their jericans and started pumping water. Many were drinking water from the borehole in excitement. The village residents were thankful for the borehole and for the clean water they received. After opening the borehole, Tom and Alex held a meeting with the village residents to discuss about some of the lessons that were taught to them especially those regarded borehole management. Some of the points or issues discussed were borehole contributions, clean jericans, respect for each other, making sure that the borehole is pumped well, time for opening and closing and lastly following the bylaws set in place to govern and manage the well. All the residents who were present promised and committed to making sure that all the above are set and followed. Alex also encouraged the village and congratulated them for getting the borehole. He reminded them to continue maintaining the sanitation and hygiene as never let go back to their old ways of open defecation. He also reminded and encouraged them to take good care of the borehole because it’s not for kibo but for the people of kishaike. The residents were very appreciative and thankful for the advice Alex gave them. They also promised to take the knowledge they have learned very well to improve on their sanitation as well as keeping their borehole well maintained.
