Notes
Tape went to Nawampiti village to continue teaching participants how to build stoves. When she reached in the village she found the participants busy stamping the dirt as they waited for Tape. This was very encouraging to see the community getting involved in stove building other than waiting for Kibo staff to reach in the village. The participants told her that they chose Mr. Bageya for the stove because he had all the home facilities in place which were well smeared that helped him to qualify for a stove for that day. Tape thanked them for the work done and encouraged them to keep on practicing because practice makes perfect. She looked at the dirt it was properly mixed with grass and stamped. Tape asked the participants to move the dirt into the kitchen where the stove was to be built. She asked the participants to bring banana stems so that she can guide them how to measure the banana stems that are used to build stoves. Three men took the lead and Tape taught them how to measure banana stems. This was intended to ensure that participants learn how to build stoves from the beginning to the end. Kibo staff went ahead to lay a foundation of the stove in the kitchen as the participants were watching. Some men asked Tape to show them where to throw the dirt so that they can practice because they were very much interested in learning. Finally Kibo staff with little help from the community built a stove for Mr. Bageya who was an active participants in the group. She then asked the participants to draw down how a complete stoves looked like to see whether they had learnt. Interesting participants tried though they couldn’t figure out the number of banana stems used to build a stove. Tape thanked them for having tried and asked them next time to attend as she is teaching them how to remove banana stems from a complete stove. She also tasked them to get ready to build a stove on their own during the next stove building lesson because the program aims at empowering them with a skill of building stoves and they can only attain this by practicing. Participants thanked Kibo for giving them an opportunity to try, for encouragement and promised to keep on practicing because practice makes perfect. They also asked her to be patient with them when ever they make mistakes and to correct them. Tape agreed that she will always guide them , correct them because she wants them to learn and that’s the reason she involves them.
