Notes
Chris and Alex b visited nabituluntu village to continue guiding the community group members as they held engagements on opening a group bank account, nabituluntu community mvule group is now legally registered with the government of uganda which is now operating a piggerry project worth 200,000 uganda shillings (56 dollors), it is for this reason chris and Alex b hoped for the group to open a group account in order to manage their finances very well, prior to this visit, Alex b and chris had taught the group why they need a group bank account and the advantages that come with it, the group members requested to go back and consult each other and promised to come back with a comprehensive response about that matter. Before Alex b and Chris could settle down for the meeting, they moved to homes of the group members to check on their families and as well mobilise them for the meeting, this strategy has helped to strengthen the kibo group relationship with the community members, among the homes chris and alex b visited was of Mrs Nangobi who is nursing one of her daughters who was burnt when her house caught fire which was caused by petrol, she got severe burns and was so much in pain, Mrs nangobi thanked kibo group through chris and alex b for teaching them how to help and love each other in difficult times, she said the group members have helped her by buying medicine and comforting her when she was down therefore she thanks alex b and chris for guiding them to love one another. When alex b and chris came back to the venue they found 15 group members who included 8 women and 7 men seated, the chairperson of the group mr Tulibagenyi welcomed chris and alex and thanked the members for coming to the meeting despite the fact that it was threatening to rain. The chairperson reported that in the absence of chris and alex b, the group members held a meeting to agree on a number of issues before they could open a group bank account , the chairperson reported that members unanimously agreed to open the group bank account , chris requested the chairperson to give some of the issues that led them to unanimously chose to open the group bank account, the chairperson said many saving groups in the community lose money every day because they keep money with an individual in their houses, these individuals end up using the group money for selfish interests , he cited an example from the neighboring village group which kept 5,400,000 million shillings in a saving box and later gave it to their treasurer to keep in her house, when time reached for them to share their money, the treasurer dissappeared with their money , the group members said if they had kept their money in they bank, it would have been safe, that and many other issues are the the reasons why they chose to open a group bank account. Chris thanked the group members for deciding to open a group bank account, he said this was the only way safety to the group money was guaranteed, chris said on top of keeping their money safe , the group was assured of accountability and transperence since any transaction comes with a receipt or a slip to show to the stake holders that a certain transaction took place , chris also said the members will be consulted before any transaction will take place however, chris said their are a number of items a bank would need from the group members and this will include the signitaries of the group bank account, chris said the signitaries are normally chosen by the group members from the committee leaders who include the chairperson , the secretary , the treasurer and a member as a witness, chris said this is done because the bank wants safety and transperency guaranteed. Chris also said the bank will need an introductory letter from the LC1 chairman to shkw that the group has no crimal record and is operating in his area, chris said this helps the bank to keep trace the group members incase something happens, chris said the bank will need a certificate , the constitution and a refferee, he said a referee is some one who already has an account in the bank they intend to open an account from however chris encouraged the group members to nkt rush but take their time ti decide which bank suits their demands. Alex b encoutagednthe members to be vigilant about what the bank offers, he said members should look out for the bank that has low interest rates, he said this will enable them to borrow money to support their group activities, alex also said the members should look for the bank that supports agriculture and local economic activities by giving them soft loans, alex b encouraged the members to stay focused and work together as a group. Chris and alex will visit next week To prepare the group to recieve the goats, chris and alex b will go through the group constitution and the group reqister to make sure all the members have the requirements to recieve goats which include having planted trees, having the updated certificate of registration, all the members having been active, their economic activity is doing well as well as making sure the members prepare what to feed the goats and their shelter. Chris and alex b will also prepare the group members for the visiting of the CDO which is next week.
