Notes
Upon arrival to the village, Lorna started by teaching the children ages 9-12. Lorna exchanged greeting with the children, asked them to introduce themselves and after which she asked them how they have been in this lockdown and the challenges. They mentioned they want to go back to school and when asked why some said they were tired of digging, fetching firewood, laying bricks , fetching water, grazing, among others. Lorna mentioned that these chores are normal and are done by everyone and especially by children. She mentioned when they work hard and help their parents, when the schools open they will be happy to send them back to School. The digging and milking of the cows and bricklaying when Schools reopen their parents will sell and provide them fees and other requirements. She urged them to obey their parents and do whatever they are told as good obedient children. Lorna then told them a story and asked them what they picked from the story. She then told them the importance of listening to their parents and teachers because when they don’t listen, there are consequences. After the lesson with the children,Lorna met about 19 adults where they were able to review the previous lesson which was on women And HIV/AIDS. They actually asked for more time or another day to continue this lesson. However in the days lesson, we looked at cure and treatment of HIV . Where we discussed about if HIV had a cure and we concluded there is no cure despite the different drugs on the market together with herbs. We looked at what are the cofactors that make a person living with HIV sicker or die faster like not eating well, stress, not treating stds in time, alcohol and drugs among others. We looked at the treatment plan which involved taking meds on time , along with exercises, reduction in intake of alcohol, abstaining from sex, using condoms, avoiding stress, keeping one sexual partner, prayer, eating a balanced diet, love and support from family among others. Different community members gave different stories of persons living with HIV and how they are taking care of them or took care of them including one woman who mentioned her uncles who drinks uncooked milk. Ismael commented and said some treatments are psychological and milk has different nutrients but the milk needs to be cooked. The lady said her uncle has used uncooked milk for years. We also looked at disease progression and positive behavior where we looked at the window period which is the period when the person is more infectious and the virus is not being detected yet the most dangerous stage. We also looked at the incubation period and the honey moon period respectively.
