Notes
Enock and Keneth went to kamudoke village to conduct triggering in hand washing, emphasize safe water chain and demonstrate how to construct a hand washing stand as well as the core values of washing hands with soap. As we reached the community, they invited us at the meeting area where we waited for all the local leaders, VHTs and some active village residents who came to participate in the hand washing campaign. The good news is all the local leaders from LC1, LC2 as well as the borehole and sanitation committee members came for the meeting as we where joined by sub-county health assistant Mr Busense. Enock introduced hand washing triggering lessons and first asked the residents who came to the meeting to raise there hands up and after show their fellow residents to look at the hands and tell if they are clean. They asked questions to the residents like which diseases are spread through through dirty hands and most of the residents answered diarrhea, trachoma, dysentery, typhoid, cholera this showered that they had ideas on some of the diseases which affect there health as we guided them and lead the discussion. During the lesson Enock mentioned about the continued medical expenses brought about by poor sanitation and bad practices of not washing hands with soap. After we asked volunteers to come in front to demonstrated how to wash hands with out soap and with soap so that all the community members can see the core values of hand and emphasize the use of washing hands with soap. The residents saw clearly how it’s so important to wash hands with soap since most people have only been using plain water. Keneth spoke about the anal cleaning materials, wall contamination, shit and shake and dirt under fingernails so that the residents can clearly learn from their old behaviors and change to improve their sanitation. After all the discussion, we then demonstrated how to construct a hand washing stand so that the residents can all learn to also teach others. The good news most of the builders of the village attended and learnt how to construct a good and strong hand washing stand as we encouraged them to help most of the residents to construct sustainable facilities.
