Notes
Alex was in Maliga to measure the impact of the Mvule program activities in the village. The Mvule program started to work in this village back in 2018 and gave goats in 2019. As we continue to look at the future direction Mvule program is taking, we have decided to choose 10 villages kibo has given goats and asses the impact out of the trees and goats given to help us plan and think otherwise for the future villages. This evaluation is to also help Mvule program to think if something else besides the goats or trees can be tried out in other villages instead of only giving goats to every community. Alex met with the chairperson of the group, Mrs. Fiida and two other community members who confessed a lot that kibo group programs have helped their village look different from the other neighboring villages. While Evaluating the Mvule program in Maliga, Alex asked if the community had observed any impact out of the activities done by Mvule community development program. Fiida first appreciated kibo and said that this program had helped first to unite their village and learn how to work together as a village. 70 community members came together in the beginning and each planted at least two trees from Kibo group and later each one received a goat from kibo group. Out of the 70 goats received from kibo group, the community members lost only 4 goats due to sickness. 15 community members including the chairperson of the village have got cows out of a goat they received from kibo group while the rest of the members have more than three goats. The future dream by all the community members is to each get a cow from the one goat received from kibo. They continue to meet and encourage each other and save money together to do other projects. Besides the activities initiated by kibo group, the community is engaging in farming growing rice and beans. They requested if Kibo group would still be in position to provide the community with improved seedlings to the community members. Alex visited 10 homes to assess the impact of the kibo activities and was amazed how people have embraced the idea of hand washing stands and were using them. More than 30 households have constructed these hand washing stands and it has spilled off to the neighboring village. The borehole that was repaired by kibo group about five years ago was still functioning and the homes looked clean. On a scale 1-10, I would say that there is a great success of kibo programs in this villages above average according to information gathered from people. Alex will continue to move to other villages that received goats and asses the impact of the program and gather information to guide the MCD program in future.
