Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B, to teach about Discipline in children. Diana got the community gathered ready for the lesson. The chairman mr Kiige welcomed the members and encouraged them to always take the community empowerment lessons seriously, because they directly speak to their day to day life. He went a head to thank Kibo as the organization for bringing to them good lessons that have transformed their community. He asked the Community to clap for Kibo team as represented by the community empowerment program. He welcomed Diana to take them through the lesson. Diana thanked everyone for keeping time and looking good. She encouraged them to keep up the same spirit. She told them that they don’t-need to be in town to look good, but they can start from their community. They laughed as Diana talked to them. Diana took them through a recap of chores and responsibilities in children. Hasifa responded by telling the community the importance of Chores in children, she says since she started implementing these responsibilities to her children, there is peace and the workload has been reduced from her. Her children are responsible, they clean the home and help her fetch water and at the same time cook food. Her children are ages of fourteen, eight and six years. Diana requested the community to clap for her, because that’s what Kibo wants. The organization wants to see a transformed community. Diana introduced the lesson of the day, which was Discipline in children. She asked them how they discipline their children. Sarah said that, she beats up her children. James said for him he denies food to his children as a way of disciplining them. Diana thanked them for their wonderful answers. She started by explaining what discipline is in their local language, which is imparting knowledge and teaching them skills. Diana told them that discipline teaches children to make good choices. It also teaches them to manage anxiety and be safe. The parents do not have to barter their children or deny them food, because there are other softer ways that can be used to discipline children. Therefore parents need to teach their children to choose between right and wrong as these will be guide lines in their day to day lives. Diana encouraged the parents to always listen to their children before disciplining them. Children need to be given a chance to explain themselves to their parents before being punished. Diana continued with the lesson and told the community that on her next visit she wants everyone to tell her how they discipline their children, and which ages do they begin disciplining them. The chairman thanked everyone for attending.
