Notes
Suzan went to the village to take incentives to the community members as a sign of appreciation for participating in the program activities. Before reaching the village, she went to the sub-county and picked the community development officer Madam Cissy because it was important for her to be at the event and witness the handing of the incentives to the community. While at the sub county, some government officials demanded to also receive copies of Kibo annual reports which can make them know the exact activities carried out in the villages. However Suzan reported that the reports are usually submitted at the districts. The C.D.O would also be able to speak to the entire community that time and thank them for the work carried out as well as encouraging them to always maintain all their home facilities for a healthy living. When they arrived, they were happily welcomed by the community members who looked so neat and the entire place was well decorated. The event which was like a farewell party was led by one of the young participants madam Monica who acted as an M.C that day. After a short prayer, she welcomed the visitors and then went through the agenda as everyone was listening just to make sure everything was in order. The next item was to first walk around the village while checking on different facilities and the stove maintenance. Suzan, the CDO and a few members walked while visiting different homes and the CDO was so pleased to find the women cooking on their new stoves and the other facilities well maintained such as the firewood storages, dish racks, latrines, shower areas and hand washing jerrycans. The group also went and visited the borehole which was constructed by Kibo group and this impressed the CDO so much. Later after walking around the village, they went back to the meeting place and sat down together. The village chairperson Mr.kalongo first addressed the community by welcoming everyone to the meeting and then thanked them for coordinating with Kibo group upon the development of the village. He then requested Kibo staff to go ahead and address the community. Suzan first talked to the community by thanking everyone for attending the program lessons which was not easy at the very beginning. She thanked both the local leaders and group leaders for the effort they put in mobilizing the community to participate in the program implementations. She went ahead and requested each one to continue cooking on their fuel efficient stoves and avoid the previous challenges they faced while cooking on the three stones open flames stoves,as well as to maintain all their other facilities. Because of the good work carried out, Suzan informed the participants how they were going to receive a few gifts from Kibo group in appreciation for the good work done and this was also to motivate them to continue maintaining their facilities and cook on their stoves. Two big saucepans were handed over to the community members and each member managed to receive a piece of soap as a symbol to wash off the dirt from their bodies whenever they built stoves. The members jumped up high singing and dancing while praising Kibo group for the gifts and empowering them with the program skills. The group chairperson madam Koowa on behalf of the community thanked Kibo so much for the gifts , knowledge and skills taught to them . She said the women feel so empowered now, they are so clean and their men respect them nowadays unlike those days. The women are enjoying to cook on their new stoves and have reported to save a lot of firewood and time . Later, the CDO addressed the community with the words of encouragement and requested them to always maintain the same spirit of working together as a team in the development of their village. She also encouraged them to welcome and embrace all the other new Kibo programs when introduced in the community. Suzan closed the meeting thanking everyone for attending and she put the music for them to dance before they said farewell to each other.
