Notes
Tape went back to the upper section of the village to follow up on the stove building progress and the construction of the firewood storages in the kitchens. When she got there, she met some group members around the borehole who welcomed her. They informed tape how the other members had gone to build a stove for one of their elderly members. Before reaching there, tape together with the four women went and carried out a home to home visit to follow up on the maintenance of the program facilities. Along the way, she observed that most people had improved on their general sanitation and hygiene around their homes and the facilities well maintained such as well smeared houses, kitchens with firewood storages, good dish racks, latrines and shower areas. Some members had collected materials to improve on their facilities such as roofing their kitchens and constructing stronger firewood stands . Although most facilities were well maintained, tape came across rosemary’s kitchen and found her cooking on the three stones open flames. Rosemary complained of too much smoke whenever she tried to cook on her fuel efficient stove, and that she was planning to build another stove at a right wind direction as soon as possible. Tape kindly reminded her of the dangers of cooking on the three stones stove once she continued cooking on them. Another woman was also found cooking on the traditional three stones open flames while the new improved stoves was piled with dust and dirty utensils. Tape requested her to take out the three stones, clean up the kitchen and begin cooking on her new stove because she had no proper reason for not cooking on her improved saving stove. Later after they went to a home where the stove building was taking place and found the members almost done with the work. Tape was so grateful for the good work and just encouraged them to continue working as a group especially building more stoves for new members.
