Notes
Harriet went to Kamudoke village to introduce the Healthy and safe kitchens program to the local leaders. She found a few leaders already at the meeting place and after few minutes every one turned up for the meeting. The meeting begun with an open prayer that was led by the active VHT Mr. Akuzasi. The chairperson LC1 Mr. wamutaze Hamidu , on behalf of the community thanked kibo for having improved sanitation and hygiene practices in their village and promised that he is ready to work with / support any program from kibo Group. Kibo staff staff Harriet introduced the healthy and safe kitchen program as a program that aims at empowering them with knowledge and skills that will help them to create a conducive cooking environment, help them save firewood , reduce the time spent in the forests looking for firewood, reduce cases of fire accidents and encourage men to work together with their wives. She added that the program will teach them how to build fuel efficient stoves out of the locally available materials, the stoves use less firewood, vents out smoke that will reduce smoke inhalation as they cook food thus reduced cases of diseases caused by smoke. After Harriet’s introduction all the leaders present were excited about the program and the chairperson LC1 said that this program will greatly benefit his community because most people lack firewood to cook food and some have resorted to using charcoal which is expensive. He also said that most women have been battered by their husband due cooking half cooked food, delaying to cook and serve meals as a result of lack of firewood. He added that most men blame their wives with out knowing the challenges they go through as they cook food. Harriet requested the leaders to work with her to mobilize the men also to participate in this program for it to be successful.
