Notes
Irene went to Naisamula to teach about burns and scalds. The meeting started with a word from the VHt who thanked members for turning up for the meeting, welcomed Irene to their village, encouraged the members to continue with the contributions they are making towards cement for concrete latrine slabs and shower areas as a way of making them long lasting, he encouraged them to also make a water collecting hole with stones behind their shower areas so that it doesn’t flood to create more health related issues. This was an idea one of the members suggested and the others embraced it as a way of continuous improvement on sanitation and hygiene in their home. He continued to thank the health education program for creating awareness in their village at least their has been an increase in the turn up of members to the nearby hospital for proper treatment ever since we started creating awareness and breaking the health myths in their village. Irene was then invited to say a word to the members. Irene thanked all the members for the turn up,the VHT for the good work they are doing and for embracing kibo in their village.Made a recap of the previous lessons and then introduced the lesson of the day as burns and scalds. Before the discussion Irene asked the members if any of their family members has ever gotten burnt and several raised their hands. Asked for the cause of the burns and majority were related to hat water, and fires. With that Irene asked among the members those with the fire wood saving stoves that kibo introduced in their village because those solve most of the problems to burns, basing on that Irene and the members discussed on the prevention which majorly involved having a safe stove which the members justified that solved most of the problems related to burns in their homes. After the discussion Irene and the members asked the committee that led the stove building process to help build stoves for the other members that have kitchens so as to further solve the issues of burns in their homes. After the discussion Irene talked to one of the members who thanked her for the lessons on HIV/AIDS because she had defaulted the drugs because of the long distance not knowing the outcome, but because of the lesson she has resumed on her drugs and promised not to default them again.
