Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B, to carry out evaluation and introduce the lesson of bride price. Diana got the community ready for the lesson. The chairperson Mrs Yudaya, thanked everyone for attending and keeping time. Khamadi opened with a word of prayer. Khamadi thanked the whole Kibo team for the good lessons that are taught to them. He testifies that their community has greatly changed. The children are doing house chores. He said in his home his wife respects him so much. This caused an applause from the community. Diana was happy and requested the rest of the members to emulate the example of Khamadi’s family. Diana started by reading the Bible verses as she had promised them the in the previous lesson, 1st Conrithians 7:3-5, “Let the husband render unto the wife her due and like wise the wife unto the husband. The wife has not power over her own body, but the husband: and like wise the husband has not power over his own body, but the wife.”. Diana kept reading these blessings as the community kept clapping their hands. James requested Diana to read these same verses for his wife on the next visit, because she was not around. Diana responded to him that she will honor his request. Diana told the community that the words were not hers, but from the Holy book of God. She said God wants a family that reasons together and treats their partners with honor. It is from here that Khamadi requested Diana to talk about mothers in-law with their daughters in law. Diana opened the discussion as Kiige said that daughters in law treat their mothers in law like their co-wives. Diana added on that Kiige is telling the truth. Some daughters in- law don’t want to be near their mothers in-law. Diana told the community that if such instances happen, the daughters have to respect their mothers in law like their own mothers. They should treat them like they would treat their own mothers. For example washing for them the men brushed this off saying it is ladies from towns that do that and not from their community, this caused an applause of laughter. Diana told them that even in Nawandyo B community such women can be found. Sofia said that it is true daughters in-law can’t wash or even cook for their mothers in-law. Mrs Zironda, said that even the sisters in-law have given them headache. The sisters of the man behave as if they are married to their brothers. Diana added on that it is wrong sisters of the man should show respect to their sisters in law, because they are part of their family now. The community kept encouraging Diana to continue with the lesson. Diana continued with this discussion. She did not introduce the new lesson of bride price because the lesson became interesting and it stretched a bit. They really appreciated Diana so much for this lesson which is an eye opener to everyone in the community.
