Notes
Harriet was in Butabira village to continue following up on kitchen safety, food handling safety and firewood storages. This was a surprise visit because she wanted to find the participants in their day to day life. She reached in the village when it was raining and most participants were in doors. She went to different homes of the participants and interestingly found most participants with dry stoves cooking on their stoves. In some homes the men were also participating in cooking which was nice to see. A case in point was Mzee OKudo who was found cooking ground nuts for his wife who was sick lying in the the house. He said that the stove provided a conducive atmosphere that motivates him to help his wife to cook food . This is because it uses less firewood, vents out smoke unlike the traditional three open flames. In some homes Harriet found the family together in the kitchen cooking food .The participants said that the stove created more unity and love in the family because a family that stays together, works together develops together thus improving marriage relationship. Most homes were using their dish racks as they washed utensils and dried them on the dish racks. The men reported that kibo helped their village to further improve the hygiene in the kitchen because it taught them how clean, arrange utensils, cook clean food and serve it on clean utensils. Harriet encouraged them always to remove dry utensils from the dish racks when ever it started raining to avoid dirt splashing back on them. Also most participants had firewood storage stand well stocked them with firewood. The participants reported that they are not stressed with firewood in this rainy season since they have stocked firewood in their kitchens and their stoves use less firewood and this has reduced stress to look for firewood . Harriet reminded them about the postponement for the day of borehole and stove commissioning to Thursday 2/12/2021 and encouraged to remind each other and to attend. The participants were very thankful for KIbo programs and promised to attend any program that kibo brings in their village.
