Notes
Purpose of the visit in Kagulu village, Manuela went to this village to review the previous lesson on how HIV is transmitted then to teach about how HIV can be prevented from spreading among people. This lesson is aimed at educating participants so that they can stop living reckless lifestyles but mind on how to build their immune systems stronger through eating well balanced diet food and practicing good behavior change etc. Manuela reached the village and found few participants already seated waiting for her, Manuela greeted them and asked for the rest of the participants, one of the participants told Manuela that, they are building stoves but after that they will come, Manuela asked one of the participants to accompany her where they are building the stoves, Manuela reached , and indeed she found them building, she appreciated them for the good work and encouraged them to keep the spirits to promote sustainability in the community. After that, she told them that she will be waiting for them at the meeting place. Manuela came back from the building site to the meeting place , after 30 minutes, participants came for lessons, Manuela asked one of the participants to pray, after that she asked participants about the previous lessons, one of the participants lead the exercise, she called faridah, she would ask questions and the participants give her answers , most of the participants shared their ideas which was good. They mentioned different ways through which HIV is transmitted for example they said answers like, through having unprotected sex with an infected person, mother to child transmission etc. After that brain storming, Manuela told the participants that it’s good to know how HIV is transmitted then you can be able to prevent it, Manuela asked a question, what is universal precautions? No response, Manuela explained to them that it means that everyone is entitled to be careful when it comes to HIV issues because everyone can catch the virus. She asked them again what is HIV prevention ? One of the participants said that, it means staying away from things that can aide the HIV transmission for example Through not having sexual affairs, through not sharing sharpe instrument, stop giving birth at home etc. After that brain storming, Manuela explained to the participants that it’s good to know the different ways of avoiding HIV because it help one to stay away from activities that leads to HIV infections because every body has a chance of catching the HIV virus . Then Manuela told participants that there are many ways one can practice in order to avoid catching the virus for example Manuela told them to avoid sharing sharp instruments like soft pin, syringes, needles etc, they should always use protective gear while handling people with wounds, you can use gloves, polythen bags, avoid having unprotected sex with just anybody, avoid deep kissing, always test for HIV before marriage or sex, avoiding having multiple sexual partners, be faithful to your partner, always use condoms while having sex with some one whom you don’t know his or her HIV status, finally abstain from sex if you are not ready. After that explanation, one of the participants asked why is that some people are on medication of HIV but they look unhealthy compared to others. Manuela told them that it depends on the someone’s immune systems, the behavior change and life styles. For example some people don’t care to take their medication in time, they go on re infecting themselves, not treating the related sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and Syphilis hence making them to unhealthy etc. After that, Manuela encouraged the participants who are taking care of their loved ones who are HIV positive to be so careful because any slit mistake it means a lot to their lives. She also encouraged the ones who are positive to continue living positively through following Doctors directives so that they can live longer . Manuela encouraged them to take their medication in time, eat well, go for check ups etc. Finally, Manuela gave the participants homework to search for, it’s about disease progression.
