Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to continue teaching about poultry lessons ( materials needed for hatching) Ida found when four members were waiting for her because the community sat She asked Kyokali to lead the prayer as they had already waited. After the prayer, Mugote the VHT did the recap on the previous lesson. She thanked the community members ( ambassadors) for waiting. Then Ida opened up the discussion asking members what they use when preparing their chickens for hatching. Tatya said that he prepares maize brand such that when the hen hatches there’s food for the chics. Ida continued with the discussion telling them what should be in place when preparing chickens for hatching. Glucose, new castle vaccine, feeds and a coop. Glucose is given to chics for three hours. It gives strength, heat and cleans the throat up to the intestines ( digestive system) New castle vaccine is given three hours after hatch. This vaccine is given to prevent chics from suffering from coccidiosis and new castle disease. After glucose food starts immediately. Chicken feeds must be available to avoid loosing chicks when looking for food in the bushes. A coop keeps chics from wild birds and animals. The members were happy and promised to teach the rest.
