Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B to teach the poultry lessons. She got only two members around, this is because it had rained and most members were still in the gardens. Diana passed some in their gardens. She told them to hurry up. Diana was patient enough she waited for the members and indeed they hurried up and came for the lessons. It seemed as if they talked to one another to arrive at the same time. Khamadi the secretary requested Hasifa to open with a word of prayer. He thanked everyone for hurrying up with their work in the gardens to attend the community empowerment lessons. Since it was running late, he requested Diana to take them through the lesson. Diana also thanked the community members for making it to the community empowerment lessons. She knows that it is raining every where and how important rain is to them. She started by asking them, what they understand by chicken. Khamadi said that, it is the bird that is reared for business, Sofia added on that it is a bird that every one enjoys and is kept by every house hold, David also said that, it is a bird that is good to look at in a home. Diana thanked everyone for their contribution and told them that they are all correct, and told the rest of the members to clap for them. Diana also told them that, a chicken in African society, is the only bird that is slaughtered for the son in law with his people when they visit their in-laws. The community laughed and agreed with Diana. Racheal said that she has never seen a duck being slaughtered for the in-laws when they visit, still the community agreed that it is true. Diana asked them how their hens hatch and how they mark the eggs the hens lay. Khamadi said that their chickens stay on trees and the hens hatch in kitchens. Diana asked him how safe are those eggs in the kitchen, because most kitchens do not have doors, therefore the hens are not safe. Diana told them that the hens must have a comfortable place to lay their eggs if they want to benefit from poultry. Diana added on that they should allow the chickens to bathe in the sand because it helps to clean themselves from germs. Diana told them that don’t you see, the chickens are better than the human beings who at times don’t want to bathe. The community in an applaud of laughter said it is the men. The conversation went on well as everyone kept laughing. Since it was already late, Diana ended there and told them she will continue from there in the next visit, and that they should keep time. The chairman thanked Diana for always making the lessons interesting and for bringing the good lesson for them . He encouraged the community to be vigilant in these lessons.
