Maria and Jake went to Bukudumira village upper section to teach about pneumonia and diarrhea, discussing the signs and symptoms, prevention, and treatment. The meeting started by defining the term pneumonia, it’s signs and symptoms. Members gave several definitions; pneumonia is when a baby gets cough that has sound. Maria gave a clear definition saying that it an infection that inflames the lungs or air sacs caused by a bacteria. Ben gave several signs; pain in the chest, fever, cough among others. Maria added more dangers signs; fast or shallow breath, fast heart rate etc, she advised the community members to put on masks while doing dust duty like correcting charcoal, moving on a dusty road, avoid leaving babies in cold weather and take babies for immunization because pneumonia is immunized. Furthermore causes of Diarrhea were discussed, members gave different ways through which one can get diarrhea; taking dirt water, eating before washing hands etc. Maria advised members to build hand washing facilities near the latrine, use soap or ash to wash hands before eating and after visiting the latrine. She mentioned some of the danger signs caused by diarrhea; dehydration, Loss of lives. Maria emphasized on taking children to hospital for vaccination reminding the community members about the Rota vaccines given to children to prevent them from getting diarrhea.
