- Alex together with two VHTs first checked on the homes of Isiko Waiswa, Zaidi and the old lady, Kagoya who is a grand mother to the area Member of parliament. Isiko Waiswa had finished to construct on his pit latrine that had collapsed due to the heavy rains. Zaidi too had completed to build a new pit latrine structure and only left with roofing it. The grandmother, Kagoya her new pit latrine will soon be completed. It’s left with roofing and a few steps of building before they start using it.
While in the meeting, we discussed about why it’s important for all the community members to participate and contribute towards this process before a borehole is drilled. This will create a sense of ownership and responsibility amongst all the people in the community and not think a borehole is for Kibo group that drilled it. Also this promotes unity and will prevent misunderstandings that may arise when it comes to surveying and drilling of the borehole as a community will be together and not divided. All the homes in the community must equally contribute towards the borehole and there should be no any thoughts that only those that are far and drinking water from the swamp should contribute more than those that are less water stressed. This borehole belongs to everyone in the community and is for Buluvu village. All of us agreed on this while in the meeting and that the village should keep working together and no one should spread a rumor telling the people where the borehole will be drilled. Some people had started telling the people in the lower section that because they are water stressed, Kibo group had considered drilling the borehole there which is not the case since no one in Kibo has said so. They had gone ahead to tell the homes in the lower part to contribute more money than the rest of the homes in the community.
The new water user committee was told to remain working together with the LC1 while collecting the money from the people and to also be active in performing its roles and responsibilities. The community sat together and agreed to each contribute 10,000sh per household that will meet the borehole account and feeding the workers. Most people promised to bring in the money in two weeks but already some people had paid in the money. Alex will continue to prepare the community through the remaining steps before the borehole survey and drilling.
