Notes
Enock went to this village to check on the progress of hand washing facilities, to continue sensitizing the community residents about the importance of hand washing before eating anything and after visiting the latrine. First of all, Enock discussed with the community members home to home on the challenges which result due to poor sanitation and hygiene, disadvantages of not washing their hands as well as the values of having hand washing facilities. The women were taught to always first wash their hands with soap before serving food, teach their children to also have the discipline of washing their hands so well before eating anything. They should always use soap to clean their hands. There are already 11 new hand washing facilities constructed and are all in use. We told some residents to demonstrate to us and show how their hand washing facilities work. The men were so active because they took their time to construct hand washing facilities. The community members are embracing the program and working towards having hand washing stations in all their homes. As we continued walking around we also visited some homes that had pits but not constructed. There are already two new latrines completed and remaining 3 residents to construct their latrine structures. Enock encouraged them to use ash in their latrines, to properly maintain the sanitation inside and also construct good doors for privacy and their dignity. Some of the ladies have smeared their shower areas and latrines to make their compounds looks clean. The rubbish pits which were dug are all in use, one can tell seeing all homes well swept and they have proper management of their trash. The rest of the village residents told us that when Enock visits the next time at least half of the village will have completed their hand washing facilities. So on the next visit, Enock will be expecting to see more hand washing facilities.
