Notes
The chairman and VHTs welcomed Enock and Martin as they had arrived. They agreed to divide up so that they walk in different sections in order to reach a great number of homes in the community. The reason of dividing up was to mobilise the community members to come for the upcoming meeting which will be taking place on 2nd July. The meeting is to ask the residents why some people up to now have not yet completed their latrines and other facilities, also to set the date for accomplishment and make a commitment to complete construction of all the facilities including latrines, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas, rubbish pits, hand washing facilities and more. All the homes that were covered responded so well and are waiting to come and attend the meeting. Also we were working on the mobilisation, we continued sensitising the residents to improve on their sanitation facilities, construct good and sustainable facilities which will last many years and avoid repeating the same thing. In this way the residents will be more productive, spend more time focusing on their home development, spending enough time in their gardens not worrying about poor hygiene and sanitation. The latrine coverage has increased from 30% to 80% and the target is 100%. We are liasing with the community leaders to start focusing on the homes which are still practising open defection, encouraging those families to spend more time in their homes to dig deep latrines, with nice structures and a roof on them. There is a family for along time they didn’t have a kitchen area and cooked in an open area. They faced so many challenges like heavy rainfall, hot and humid climate forcing them to have late meals. They have now completed constructing their new kitchen and are excited to have it. The family is able to sit inside as they wait for the food. We encouraged everyone to do the same in their homes.

Village Notes
All the residents agreed to come and attend the general meeting during the next visit. There are some new kitchen areas, shower areas and some of the families are able to shower during the day unlike before when they used to wait for the night time and even skip some days. The residents are taking all the lessons seriously although some of them have been slow due to harvesting period.

3365 This is a family of Mr Menya and Nabirye Badiru. A while back, they didn’t have any kitchen, the wife used to cook food in an open area. This came with so many challenges like bad weather ie heavy rainfall, hot days of sunshine, forcing the family to eat late meals. The joy of this family at the moment is to have a good kitchen area where, they can cook food in time, sit inside the kitchen with their kids as they wait for meals to get ready.
