Notes
When Enock and Martin reached the village, they divided up to walk in different sections of this village so that they can reach a good number of homes. Enock went to the lower section to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits, encouraging the residents to construct good standard facilities. He also checked on the homes which are working on the their new latrines to give them proper guidance on how to construct, talked about proper sizes and shape of the structures. They had conversations with many residents home to home talking about the importance of good sanitation and hygiene and the benefits that result or that are attained due to good sanitation for example improving the health conditions and lives and reducing many cases of diarrhea and other diseases which result due to open defection. He saw two new dish racks, two new latrine pits that they are constructing. The section of the trading centre where Martin went to, he saw one new latrine constructed, a new shower area constructed. Martin taught the family how to make a proper drainage system by constructing a soak pit behind the shower area. This will help the shower area not to smell badly or holding stagnant water making the place filthy. The women were also taught how to smear their facilities and the importance of doing it. There is a witch doctor who has finally completed the construction of his latrine. He has spent 10 years practicing open defection. It was really cool seeing this family having the joy of now using their new latrine. We encouraged them to now construct a new dish rack as we taught them the values of having it. Generally there is a great increase in latrine coverage and other facilities.
