Notes
Tom made a visit to kalitumba village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as checking on facility constructions. When he reached the village, he met the committee members waiting for him at one of the vhts homes. Together they started moving around encouraging residents as well as guiding them on facility construction methods and standards. In the first homes they visited, they found when one resident has started with the digging of the pit to reach his set depth of 25ft. Tom and the committee members thanked him for the great work he was doing. His neighbor has not progressed well as the people she had given the money to dig the latrine have not been working. From those homes they reached another home where the husband has two wives but does not have a latrine. The women were very mad and upset and they requested the committee members to help them speak to their husband Mr Geoffrey so that he helps them have a latrine. The committee members promised them that they would talk to him as it’s important for him to construct a latrine for his family. From this home they moved to other homes encouraging and guiding the residents about facility maintenance. Later they reached the new chairman’s home and he joined them in the follow up. With the new chairman on board, the committee members gave him a responsibility to speak to three residents who have not yet started on digging pits for there latrines yet they are almost his neighbors. He accepted the request and said he was going to speak to them. In another home next to the chairman’s place, there is a lady who has finished her latrine. She constructed it very well with a door. Tom used that latrine to encourage the rest of the residents to construct latrine of that standard. Even though it’s not of cement or concrete, it is well constructed. The lady is very proud of her new latrine and thanked kibo for the encouragement. They also visited two other residents who are working on there latrines. One of them was encouraged to keep working on the kitchen as he waits on the person he gave the money to dig the pit . Tom and the committee members were very encouraged with the progress of the program and said they will also take the initiative to speak to some residents in person especially those being slow and those who are still very behind to also start on there facilities.
