Notes
Ida went to Nabikenge and taught the community how to rear local chickens on large scale in order to increase family income. She introduced the lesson and encouraged the community to change the way they have been caring for the chickens. When the community changes the way they think about chickens, every thing will be changed. Ida asked the community to tell her how they have been caring for their chickens. Ssegonga said that taking care of chickens is for women. Nabirye said that the chickens take care of themselves. Mwagale said that they have no idea but would love to learn new ways of caring for chickens. Dan said that they are ready to learn and put into practice all the ideas they will be taught. The community is trying to make three chickens hatch at the same time, this will help the community save a lot.eg on medicine and feeds. Ida encouraged the community to help their chickens look for places to lay eggs from. After that exercise, prepare a basket for collecting eggs, each egg that is layed mark it with a pencil by date. When the second chicken starts laying too do the same, marking the eggs with a pencil. When the first chicken starts incubation, boil one of the old eggs and give it . The egg will be fooled and wait for the rest such that they start incubation at the same time. Do the Same to the second chicken when the last one starts incubation, remove the boiled eggs from the first two and bring the basket that you kept the eggs in and sort out the following eggs : Cracked, pointed, too small, too big, dirty and the old. Those eggs sorted out can't be hatched that is the reason you must not give them to the chickens. The next step is giving the good eggs to the chickens to incubate. Start preparing for chics because after 21 days and 6hrs hatching starts. Have glucose, charcoal, a pot, drinker and a feeder. Namulinda said that how will will they keep the chickens after hatch? Ida told her to be patient because they will talk about it in the near future. Ida asked the community to be patient until next time when they will talk about what happens after hatching.

Next Visit: 2018-08-03 - Purpose: To continue with the poultry lessons.
