Notes
Tom made a visit to kisiro village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility constructions and maintenance. When he reached the village, he found the committee members waiting at one of the members homes Mr Mwoda. They first shared about the general sanitation and hygiene condition of the different sections of the village and after they started moving around. The committee members were able to give a reflection on the program where they said it has greatly improved the sanitation and hygiene standards in their village. They pointed out a few people they are proud they have latrine because they never thought those residents would ever dig and construct one for there homes. In the first homes visited, was a home of Mr kifefe who had started constructing one an 8ft pit. The committee members were very upset and told the resident that they would not let him construct on it not until he reaches 15ft. Tom also encouraged him about how to construct on it. After mr kifefe’s home, they moved to another home where they found a pit under construction. They encouraged them on how to dig the pit and how to construct on it. They were also encouraging about dish racks and showers facilities. In the section of the trading center, they found the latrine of Namusamya done. She was very happy that she finally has a latrine and thanked kibo for always encouraging her. She is also happy that three of her neighbors are also digging and constructing their latrines so, that will not put pressure on her latrine for neighbors to use it. Tom encouraged her on how to maintain it clean using ash and she was thankful. There was also a complaint about a resident’s soak pit which was very smelly and unhygienic. Tom intervened and taught the resident how to construct a better soak pit. This happened when other residents were present so that they can also learn. The resident right away started collecting rocks and poles for the new soak pit on his shower facility. After that lesson of soak pit construction, Tom left for jinja.
