Enock and Martin went to this village to check on Latrine construction, dish racks, kitchen area, shower areas, hand washing facilities, shower area as well as to continue sensitizing the residents about the importance and values of all the facilities in their homes. We also encouraged residents to continue constructing good standard facilities to avoid repeating the same work over and again. The community members have greatly embraced the program although the people are busy in gardens captivating, they spend some time in their homes constructing facilities missing. The are 6 newly constructed latrines in this village. We saw 3 new dish racks and some people making frames for their dish racks. The people having rubbish pits are using them well, you can tell when you see clean compounds. The VHTs and LC1s have been pro active and taking the lead to be great example and living exemplary. The leaders also help in monitoring and focusing on the homes which do not have latrines. I was so impressed to see when the LC1 finally completed the construction of his new latrine. This is going to help other people to improve their latrines because their leaders are also setting the standard. We continued encouraging the residents to share pick axes so that even the friends and neighbors who do not have latrines can be able to dig latrine holes. There is a family which for a very long time didn’t have a Latrine yet they are over 15 people around. Due to the continuous encouragements, follows ups in this home and talking with the husbands in this home. They managed to construct a 20ft deep latrine hole, we met them busy digging. They told us that they want 25ft deep and construct 3 roomed latrine structure. We continued walking around encouraging the other people to maintain their facilities by smearing, using ash in latrines, construct good structures and using strong materials which will help in sustainability of their facilities. The people appreciate the work kibo is doing in there village, it’s been a very longtime when only few homes in the trading centre had latrines but ever since kibo went in. They have managed to construct many latrines and using them to avoid risks of diseases like cholera. There are homes which had never been with a proper latrines, even hosting visitors they wouldn’t want too because they cannot sustain them due to the poor sanitation they hard. In one home, there was a lady who testified to us and appreciated the great work we have done in her home through teaching and sensitizing the benefits of proper sanitation. She has now a new latrine, good kitchen, shower area, rubbish pit and clean home. She can now be able to host visitors in her home.
