Health lesson 3: Burns
Notes
Ida went to Naibowa and taught a lesson about burns. She asked if there were any victims, they said not only one but many even others died. Ida asked if they knew the causes of fire accidents.Margaret said that negligence and ignorance. Kabaami said that witchcraft ,some said women. Each one thinks that their answer is the correct one. Ida asked the community what they use as first aid and if they go to any health centers. Some women said urine and feaces ,some said that Mvule sap and Margaret said she cleans with clean water and soap. Ida encouraged the community to keep the burn wounds clean always. When one puts urine and feaces on burns, they are adding more germs. More infections will continue damaging and might kill the victim. Ida asked the community to tell her how fire accidents can be prevented. Nandase suggested that stoves should be introduced Jamada said that women should be more careful when cooking. Ida asked if there was any man willing to help his wife with taking care of the children when the mother is cooking. Henry Wilber raised his hand and promised to help his wife because she works a lot while he is listening to the local news.He also reminded the community what Henry the Kibo director taught them. Henry said that"when one helps their wife with some work,it doesn't turn you into a woman but shows how much you love her and how you both share responsibilities. Ida concluded by encouraging the community to take the burn victims to the health centers not wictch doctors. And also keep away all dirty stuff from the burn. Keep marches away from children and if possible put the baby at the back(omugongo)until ones finishes cooking, this is how she was able to prevent burns from her home.r
