Notes
Introduction Lorna went to this village to teach about women and HIV/AIDS and the relationship between STDs and HIV/AIDS. Overview Lorna and Keddie arrived the meeting place and found 3 people who informed them about how some members, have gone to their children’s school as they had been called by the school for an urgent meeting. After waiting for about an hour members started coming. Another 20 minutes was given for others who had not yet come before the lesson begun. Swaibu a Muslim asked whether he could go for prayers first and then he would inform the people at the mosque to come to the meeting. After the prayers they came to the meeting. The meeting opened with a word of prayer. Lorna greeted the members and immediately started the topics of the day. Lorna started by asking what were the different STDs known to them?. They mentioned some of them; Syphilis, Gonorrhea and Lorna added Herpes and Chancroid. Lorna then asked for some of the symptoms. They mentioned itching of the genitals, white discharge from male and female organs among others. Lorna added others like pain while urinating, swelling of the testicles, death, neurological damage among others. Lorna continued and urged the community that Incase they feel any of the above sign, they should go and get treatment. Lorna then posed a question that does gonorrhea heal ?. They said that no it just stays in the body. Lorna told them that it does heal if someone finishes their dose and added that the treatment won’t be effective if it’s only one party getting the treatment. Therefore in this case both parties should get treatment to avoid the problem recurring. After looking at this, Lorna looked at the relationship of STDs and HIV whereby, Lorna informed the community that a person with STDs is at a higher risk of contracting the disease and at the same time transmitting the disease. Therefore it is important if anyone has the signs, they should get treated. On the topic of women and HIV/AIDS, they looked at why women were at risk on getting HIV more than men. They looked at both biological and cultural factors. Biological like; women have a more open mucous membrane compared to men , the sexual organ is more internal than the male organ among others while the cultural ones were; women not allowed to talk about sex, cultural practices like female circumcision, women taken as property among others . The women were all agreeing to these factors. Keddie also encouraged the members to test for HIV and if found positive it’s not the end of life as they can start on their medication immediately and continue to live well positively. Conclusion Lorna thanked the members for coming and encouraged them to also tell those who missed the lesson to come to the next meeting.

4501 The old man in a grey shirt was asking a question of how can a child also have an STD and yet they are just children ?. How does it come about?.
4504 Keddie Suzan also encouraged the members to stay safe and go for HIV testing to know their status. She added that the medicines are free for everyone unlike the one for STDs. She encouraged the members to continue coming for the meetings and those who came to pass on the information to their friends.
