Notes
Tom made a visit to igerera village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as checking on facility constructions. He started off from the lower section of the village next to the chairman’s place and together with the chairman and the committee members they checked on facilities like latrines and dish racks as well as others. In the lower section they were able to check on three pits next to the chairman’s place but non of them was constructed on. The chairman said they were continuing to dig to the right and recommended depth before they can start to construct. In that section they also found a pit of one of the village leaders latrine under construction. They had put logs on the pit but they were below standard. Tom, the chairman and the committee members guided and advised the resident on how to construct on the pit using better logs. The resident agreed to get better logs for the latrine. In the home of the former chairman’s home, Tom found when the sons to the former chairman had started on a new pit as well as constructing dish racks. The chairman of the village demonstrated to one resident on how to better construct the dish rack using fewer nails. They were very thankful to the new idea. On other homes, they found new latrines already finished and most of the residents were very thankful to Kibo for encouraging them to improve as well as offering support through the pick axes and the shovels. There was a home of one resident which had never had a latrine before which now has a latrine. The old man was encouraged by the chairman and the committee members to add on to the entrance door because it was small. On the issue of dish racks, many homes have worked on better dish racks and have greatly improved on their showers using the cement for the last rows of bricks on the shower facility.
