Notes
Tom made a visit to kalitumba village to check on facility constructions especially the roofing of latrines as well checking on how the drying of the slabs and maintenance is going. When he reached the village, he found when there was a group of people meeting at Mzee Silveā€™s home and most of them were visitors as well as some residents from the village. Tom greeted and after he was joined by mzee kirya who started by apologizing for how the slabs were not taken good care of. Tom asked him why they cracked and he said they were not watered well and they were not well covered so the direct sunlight and heat cracked them because Mzee Silve who was elected as the caretaker got some issues in his home and moved away for some days yet there was no one who took on the responsibility to take care of the slabs. Tom examined the slabs and found that seven slabs had cracked while others that had been taken good care of dried well. Tom also inspectors the covers and most of them turned out well. Tom shared with mzee kirya on how to take good care of them especially by moving all the slabs in a shade under a tree as well as continuously watering them twice a day both in the morning and evening so that they dry slowly. After sharing with them about the slabs, they talked of many people from the neighboring villages asking to buy slabs or expressing interest in slabs. Tom after when to other homes to check on roofing and he found five more latrines recently roofed with the iron sheets while one latrine was under construction. Tom after left for jinja.
