Notes
Introduction Lorna went to this village to review the previous topic and introduce a new topic Decision making Skills. Overview Lorna , Manuela and Falon went to this village to review the previous topic of Communication skills before introducing the new topic Decision making. Lorna took the community members through the review and Manuela did the introduction of decision making. The meeting started by the chairman welcoming the members and later welcoming Lorna and Manuela to go ahead and deliver what she had for them. Lorna started from the first lesson of what is communication skills, importance of effective communication in a home, importance of communicating to children, communication styles of Attack and Avoid and also communication behaviors which are ;Passive, Aggressive and Assertive. Lorna asked the questions while the community members responded. This was very interactive and it showed Lorna that the community members were attentive as she taught this topic. Lorna encouraged them not to forget what was taught but put all of it into practice. She reminded them that good communication is key to a happy and healthy family and that most families are torn apart when certain issues/ concerns are left unattended to and when communication is poor. After the review Manuela took over with Decision making. Manuela gave an overview of Decision making whereby she listed some of the subtopics we will be looking at among which she mentioned were;Steps in making good decisions, dangers of early pregnancy, the role of parents towards preventing teenage pregnancies, dangers of early marriages, Alcohol and drug abuse among others. Manuela started however with steps in making a good decision where she said that, before anyone comes up with a final decision there certain steps one looks at. She gave three examples of before buying land what does one need to put into consideration or what does one need to look at. One man said a land agreement from the person selling the land, another said consultation on whether it was or is a good idea. Manuela added one has to consider if they have enough money , what were they going to use the land for among others. Manuela asked how about when one is going to get married, what do they considered do they just get married without thinking about it. She reminded them that marriage was a commitment that one does not just enter into if they were not ready. There is no getting there and just a few months into it one wants to get out. Manuela mentioned some of the steps as ; prayer which is key as we need to seek direction from a God or Allah on whatever one was planning to do, she added thinking about the situation deeply before taking a step, consulting with a friend, family member ,one has to think about how the decision will affect their family values, spiritual values and if it does what is their response towards the issue at hand?. Manuela did not get deeper into Decision making as time had gone and decided to start from here next time. Conclusion Lorna and Manuela thanked the community members for coming and asked them to do the same next time. Manuela also thanked them for being a good class as they remembered what was taught to them previously. She urged them to share this information with those who couldn’t come.
